Preview: Neshoba Central Rockets vs. Columbus Falcons
The Neshoba Central Rockets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Columbus Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Neshoba Central has 19 straight victories, Columbus has nine straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Neshoba Central faced Germantown in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Neshoba Central came out on top against Germantown by a score of 56-49.
Neshoba Central's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kyli Truss, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Katelin Williams, who scored 12 points.
Meanwhile, Columbus ended up a good deal behind Callaway on Tuesday and lost 44-28. While losing is never fun, Columbus can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 189th, while Callaway is ranked 22nd).
Neshoba Central's victory bumped their record up to 21-1. As for Columbus, they bumped their record down to 1-16 with that defeat, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for Neshoba Central against Columbus when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 77-34 victory. With Neshoba Central ahead 46-19 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
