Preview: Trinity Shamrocks vs. Berks Catholic Saints
The Trinity Shamrocks will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Berks Catholic Saints at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Trinity has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 471 points over their last seven contests.
Even though East Pennsboro scored an imposing 59 points on Friday, Trinity still came out on top. Trinity took their matchup against East Pennsboro 66-59. Given Trinity's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while East Pennsboro is ranked 298th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Owen Schlager, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Trinity's points. Another player making a difference was Amir Evans, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Berks Catholic put another one in the bag last Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They were the clear victor by a 59-38 margin over Conrad Weiser. Berks Catholic might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four matchups by 21 points or more this season.
Trinity's victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.7 points per game. As for Berks Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Trinity came up short against Berks Catholic in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, falling 67-63. Can Trinity avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
