Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for New Albany

New Albany proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by seven) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Floyd Central Highlanders 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bulldogs have posted since April 19th.

Tyler McMillen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Braxton Mayfield was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Gavin Rand, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The victory (which was New Albany's fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Floyd Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record this season.

New Albany will face off against Providence at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Floyd Central, they will square off against Heritage Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
