Basketball Recap: Sahuaro Takes a Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Sahuaro couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 56-55 to the Dysart Demons. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Demons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Sahuaro lost, don't look at Cisco Llamas. Despite the final result, he went 12-for-25 on his way to 27 points in addition to eight steals and five rebounds. Llamas' big performance that evening made it eight games in a row in which he has scored at least 17 points. Jackson Vernon was another key player, putting up six points.

Dysart was led to victory by Lamar Anderson and Santiago Leyva. Anderson shot 50% from the field en route to 16 points along with six blocks and five boards, while Leyva dropped a double-double with 24 points and 15 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Anderson a new career-high in blocks. Another player making a difference was Ashton Havvard, who posted six points and three steals.

Sahuaro's loss dropped their record down to 22-5. As for Dysart, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-6 record this season.

As of now, neither Sahuaro nor Dysart have any future games scheduled.
