The Lexington Eagles will take on the West Trojans on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lexington is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Buffalo get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won four contests in a row.
Jillian Herridge was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Herridge was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Kendall Gural was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Teal Brockenbush was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.
Lexington always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buffalo only posted an OBP of .278.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when West and Maypearl meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Saturday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 12-6 victory.
Mabri Warren and Marlee Chase did most of the damage at the plate: Warren went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Chase went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyla Shoppach, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
West is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-16-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. As for Lexington, their victory bumped their record up to 19-7.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lexington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. However, it's not like West struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
