Basketball Recap: J.L. Mann Takes a Loss

J.L. Mann's tournament run continued when they took on Cocke County on Monday. The J.L. Mann Patriots took a 48-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cocke County Fighting Cocks. The match marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why J.L. Mann lost, don't look at Olivia McKinney. Despite the final result, she posted 12 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jade Hailstock, who had ten points.

Cocke County found their leader in sophomore Karmine Carmichael, who went 7 of 17 on her way to 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The contest was Carmichael's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Blakelyn Clevenger was another key player, putting up seven points along with three steals and three blocks.

J.L. Mann's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Cocke County, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

As for Cocke County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 43-33 win against Knoxville Catholic on the 31st.
