Baseball Game Preview: Denmark Vikings vs. New Holstein Huskies

The Denmark Vikings will venture away from home to square off against the New Holstein Huskies at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Neither Denmark nor New Holstein posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Last Tuesday, Denmark came up short against Oconto Falls and fell 7-2.

Connor Paplham was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits.

At the plate, Denmark saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Josh Gajeski, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, New Holstein had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 1-0 W against the Purple Raiders. The game was the first time the Huskies have beaten the Purple Raiders on their field since April 27, 2021.

Two Rivers' batters probably weren't too happy with Max Hellman, who pitched a no hitter and racked up ten Ks (he gave up a single walk).

New Holstein's win bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Denmark, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

New Holstein's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Denmark has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450.
