Softball Game Preview: Gettysburg Warriors vs. Palmyra Cougars

Gettysburg is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Palmyra a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Thursday. The Gettysburg Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Palmyra Cougars at 4:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, Gettysburg came up short against Bishop McDevitt and fell 7-4. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by exactly three runs.

Meanwhile, Palmyra had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Central Dauphin East on Tuesday, sneaking past 5-4.

Emalyn Funck spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up 14 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kate Shenk, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Shay Rutter, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.

Palmyra's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 2-7. As for Gettysburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-7.

Everything went Gettysburg's way against Palmyra in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Gettysburg made off with a 12-2 victory. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
