Basketball Recap: Screven County Gamecocks vs. Jefferson County Warriors
In what's become a running theme this season, the Screven County Gamecocks gave their fans yet another huge victory on Saturday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Jefferson County 59-32 on the road. Given Screven County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while the Warriors are ranked 508th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Alailah Scott, who scored 21 points along with five steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Jaliah Roberts was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Jefferson County saw an underclassman step up: Jaelissia Reeves dropped a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Reeves has scored all season.
Screven County has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. As for Jefferson County, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-20.
Screven County will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. As for Jefferson County, they will head out on the road to face off against the Fighting Irish at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Dublin's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while the Warriors have been banged up by 18 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
