Football Recap: Madison Comes Up Short

Madison extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 0-4. They were beaten by the Humphrey-Lindsay Bulldogs 56-22. If the Dragons were looking for revenge after losing 54-22 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

When it comes to explaining why Madison lost, don't look at Bodonn Sweeney. Despite the final result, he rushed for 112 yards, and also threw for 78 yards and three touchdowns. Izac Zautke was in the mix as well, providing the Dragons with two TDs.

As for Humphrey-Lindsay, the victory got them back to even at 2-2. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Humphrey-Lindsay's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Cash Hastreiter led the charge by rushing for 179 yards and one score while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Hastreiter didn't just play on offense: he also made one tackle and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception. Gavin Groteluschen was another key player, rushing for 48 yards and three touchdowns.

Looking ahead, Madison will face off against Clarkson/Leigh at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Humphrey-Lindsay, they will challenge Newman Grove/St. Edward at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Panthers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 55 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
