Baseball Recap: Morgan Township Comes Up Short

If Morgan Township was riding high fresh off their 7-1 takedown of Hammond Bishop Noll last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cherokees fell just short of the Hobart Brickies by a score of 17-16 on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Cherokees in their meetings with the Brickies: they've now lost eight in a row.

Cal Lemmons made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, nine RBI, and two runs. He is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Brady Walters, who scored five runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Morgan Township now has a losing record of 1-2-1. As for Hobart, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morgan Township will face off against Portage at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Indians will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Cherokees surely won't give up without a fight. As for Hobart, they will square off against Hanover Central at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
