Softball Recap: Rancho Comes Up Short

Rancho easily dispatched Bonanza last Monday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Rancho Rams fell just short of the Basic Wolves by a score of 5-3 on Tuesday. The Rams were not able to make up for their defeat to the Wolves from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Brooklynn Braun spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Rancho saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Annalise Stout, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Stout is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

Rancho's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Basic, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rancho will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Legacy at 3:30 p.m. on March 24th. As for Basic, they will square off against Desert Oasis at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Basic's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Desert Oasis' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
