Basketball Recap: Oakwood Academy Takes a Loss

If Oakwood Academy was riding high fresh off their 93-42 takedown of Valley Head on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mustangs took an 80-63 bruising from the Smyrna Bulldogs on Thursday.

Smyrna had a senior duo take command as Kaden Matthews dropped a double-double with 30 points and 13 boards and Elliyon Kinzer shot 47% from the field on his way to 25 points and seven rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Matthews has scored all season. Alexander 'AJ' Wright also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Oakwood Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Smyrna, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Coming up, Oakwood Academy will head out to challenge Huntsville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Smyrna, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Central Magnet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
