Softball Recap: Gladstone Picks Up Sixth Straight Win at Home

Gladstone entered their tilt with Crook County on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Cowboys. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Gladiators have posted since April 4th.

Ashlynne Franssen was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caroline Ashby, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Maycee Terry was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Gladstone pushed their record up to 10-7 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Crook County, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season.

Gladstone will have a chance to go back-to-back against Crook County: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled on Monday.
