Recap: Palmview Lobos vs. Vela Sabercats
The Palmview Lobos''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were outmatched by Vela at home and fell 35-2. While losing is never fun, Palmview can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1013th, while Vela is ranked 394th).
Jamal Polley was his usual excellent self, rushing for 183 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. Polley was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 61 yards. Myles Lopez was another key contributor, throwing for 174 yards and two touchdowns.
Palmview's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-3 McAllen Memorial (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63% over those games). As for Vela, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Palmview will head out on the road to face off against Juarez-Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Juarez-Lincoln is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'. As for Vela, they will be playing at home against Rowe at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
