Baseball Recap: Carolina Academy Takes a Loss

Carolina Academy extended their losing streak to nine on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-10 in the process. They lost 17-7 to the Berea Bulldogs. If the Trojans were looking for revenge after losing 18-11 to the Bulldogs when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Aidan Alston put in work while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Carolina Academy: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 1-9 otherwise. Alston was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Alston wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Christian Bedolla, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

As for Berea, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-12. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Like Carolina Academy, Berea also got a great game from a two-way player: Caidon Center. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 12 batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Center was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Jakob Weaver was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Those RBI were his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Semaj Marzett, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Berea beat Carolina Academy by a score of 11-10 on Thursday.
