Baseball Recap: Greenwich Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Greenwich and South Windsor squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Greenwich had to settle for second. They came up short against the Bobcats, falling 9-3. The Cardinals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Greenwich got a good showing from Lucas Meinelt, who didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Meinelt has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Greenwich saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Melley, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Greenwich's loss dropped their record down to 10-16. As for South Windsor, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.

Greenwich does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Windsor, they will square off against Fairfield Prep on Tuesday. The Jesuits' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Bobcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
