Baseball Recap: St. Bernard-Elmwood Place Has No Trouble Against Gamble Montessori

St. Bernard-Elmwood Place never let their opponents score on Wednesday. They blew past the Gamble Montessori Gators 16-0. Considering the Titans have won eight contests by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Nathan Schulte made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Schulte was also big at the plate, earning two runs and two stolen bases.

In other batting news, Jason Helphinstein was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of St. Bernard-Elmwood Place's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Logan Davis was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

St. Bernard-Elmwood Place kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.

St. Bernard-Elmwood Place's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gamble Montessori, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Bernard-Elmwood Place will venture away from home to face off against Western Hills at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Gamble Montessori, they will square off against Shroder Paideia Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
