After three lead changes,
Mission Oak (Tulare, Calif.) took the lead for good when
Kevin Palma ran for a touchdown with 9:00 to go in the fourth quarter and held on to defeat
Porterville (Calif.) 20-14 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Dennis Chester, the Panthers went into halftime with a 7-6 lead. The Hawks scored the winning points with a Palma touchdown run that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring eight points in the third, Mission Oak still trailed by 7 points going into the fourth quarter. But six points in the fourth helped MO pull out the victory.
Palma stood out for the Tulare school in the win. The senior ran for one touchdown.
Porterville's
Jordan Duran played well. The senior running back ran for one touchdown.
The Hawks came into the game allowing 9.6 points per game.
Mission Oak got revenge for last year's 26-14 loss to PHS with the victory.
The win was a nice bounce back for MO, which lost to Mt. Whitney last week, 28-21.
Porterville (2-4) goes up against Tulare Western in a East Yosemite game matchup next week, while Mission Oak (5-1) locks horns with Monache also in a East Yosemite game.
