Basketball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Wilmington

Wilmington entered their tilt with Coal City on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 56-39 victory over the Coal City Coalers. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Coalers back in December of 2024, they had to take a 52-29 defeat.

Wilmington's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryan Nelson led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Lucas Rink, who went 5 of 10 en route to 14 points and five boards.

Wilmington was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Wilmington's win bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Coal City, their loss dropped their record down to 18-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Wilmington Wildcats face off against the Lisle Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Coal City, they will take on Herscher at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Herscher will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something Coal City surely won't give up without a fight.
