Recap: Northside Christian Academy Knights vs. Gaston Day Spartans
The Northside Christian Academy Knights were the 74-49 winner over the Gaston Day Spartans when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Northside Christian Academy fell to Gaston Day 58-53. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Northside Christian Academy came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Gaston Day is ranked 111th).
Gaston Day's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Griffen Simpson led the charge by scoring 17 points. Simpson continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylen Todd, who scored 12 points.
Northside Christian Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 18-9 record this season. As for Gaston Day, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-8.
Northside Christian Academy will be playing in front of their home fans against Metrolina Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Gaston Day, they will head out on the road to take on Hickory Grove Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hickory Grove Christian is on a three-game streak of home losses, Gaston Day a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
