Baseball Game Preview: Junction City Tigers vs. Newport Cubs

Junction City is a perfect 4-0 against Newport since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Junction City will square off against Newport at 5:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Junction City is headed out to face Newport after opening their season at home and giving their fans just what they were looking for. Junction City was the clear victor by a 23-0 margin over Seaside on Thursday.

Kaden Shafer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. Shafer was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with seven RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madix Waldrop, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Jayden Lucas was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Newport hadn't done well against Henley recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Newport skirted past Henley 10-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cubs have posted against the Hornets since March 28, 2017.

Junction City came out on top in a nail-biter against Newport when the teams last played back in March of 2019, sneaking past 9-7. Does Junction City have another victory up their sleeve, or will Newport turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
