Softball Recap: Greenville Comes Up Short

Greenville had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-6 to make it five. They lost 19-0 to the Penquis Valley Patriots. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lakers of the 15-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Penquis Valley's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.

For Penquis Valley's part, Makayla Cook was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Cook was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Penquis Valley got a massive performance out of Kalea Gahagan, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with five stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those RBI were Gahagan's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brooklyn Decker, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greenville will welcome Schenck at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lakers are facing the Wolverines at the right time seeing as the Wolverines are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Penquis Valley, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Penobscot Valley at 4:00 p.m.
