Softball Recap: Westminster Gets the Win

After losing to North County the last time they met, Westminster decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Owls came out on top against the Knights by a score of 7-2 on Wednesday.

Mallory Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alyssa Ward, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Tessa Morroni was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Westminster's win bumped their record up to 2-7. As for North County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westminster will take on Winters Mill at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for North County, they will challenge Chesapeake at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 1.7 runs per game this season, so the Knights' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
