Softball Game Preview: Clinton Redwolves vs. Onsted Wildcats

Clinton is a perfect 4-0 against Onsted since June of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Redwolves will challenge the Wildcats at 2:00 p.m. Clinton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Clinton is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since April 12th on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Brighton, sneaking past 3-1.

Ashlynn Benschoter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lydia Ormsby, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Calli Kruger, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Onsted was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They came up short against Erie-Mason, falling 16-10. Even if the Wildcats couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Clinton's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-8. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Onsted, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

Everything went Clinton's way against Onsted in their previous matchup on May 9th, as Clinton made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Redwolves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
