Softball Recap: Minico's Losing Streak Snapped at 16 Games

Minico came into Thursday's contest having lost 16 straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Canyon Ridge Riverhawks 10-9. This was payback for the Spartans, who suffered an 18-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Madi Fowler and Nye Salinas did most of the damage at the plate: Fowler went 4-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Salinas went 3-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Salinas has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Carney, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Minico was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Canyon Ridge only posted a batting average of .289.

Minico's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 3-16. As for Canyon Ridge, their loss was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-14.

Minico will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Riverhawks: the pair will be back at it again later today.
