Baseball Recap: Soldotna Drops Highest Score of Season Against Grace Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Soldotna). They were the clear victors by a 16-1 margin over the Grace Christian Grizzlies on Saturday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Stars needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Brenden Theel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Matthew Schilling was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Soldotna: the team is 3-0-2 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Easton Hawkins, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Soldotna's record is now 4-9-2. As for Grace Christian, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Soldotna will welcome Homer at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Stars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mariners have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Grace Christian, they will venture away from home to take on Redington at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Huskies have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.8 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of.
