Baseball Recap: Mineral County Drops Highest Score of Season Against Lee Vining

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mineral County). They blew past the Lee Vining Tigers 23-6 on Tuesday. The win was familiar territory for the Serpents, who have now won four games in a row.

Mineral County let Evan Cox and Michael Blackwood run wild. Cox scored four runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Blackwood went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. That's the most hits Blackwood has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Sean Ethridge, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4.

Mineral County's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Lee Vining, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mineral County will venture away from home to face off against Virginia City at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Lee Vining, they will head out to take on Trona at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Tornadoes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.2 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
