Basketball Recap: Armani Langdon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Lanett over Midfield

Lanett was the 52-42 winner over Midfield when they last played one another back in December of 2015, but their luck changed this time around. The Lanett Panthers took a 73-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Midfield Patriots. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 137th, while the Patriots are ranked 33rd).

Lanett lost on Wednesday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Armani Langdon, who went 6 of 8 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points. Those 26 points gave Langdon a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Nakerionna Heard, who went 8 of 14 on her way to 17 points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Midfield found their leader in sophomore Kamiya Webb, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 16 rebounds. With that strong performance, Webb is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jazmin Johnson, who posted 17 points along with six assists and six boards.

With the loss, Lanett broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-5. As for Midfield, they pushed their record up to 12-2 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season.

Lanett wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, an 86-43 defeat against Hewitt-Trussville on the 19th. As for Midfield, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-32 victory against Pike Road on the 19th.
