Volleyball Recap: Danvers Falcons vs. Masconomet Regional Chieftains

After flying high against Winthrop on Monday, Danvers came back down to earth. The Falcons lost 3-0 to the Masconomet Regional Chieftains on Wednesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chieftains this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-0 back in September.

Danvers was held off the scoreboard, but that almost wasn't the case: they kept the second set very close. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-23, 25-17.

Angie Djoko paced Danvers' offense, picking up four kills. Djoko got some help from Isabella DeSouza and her nine assists. Lauren Garofalo controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.

Masconomet Regional's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lidia Benedetto, who had 20 digs. That's the most digs Benedetto has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Nora Sterner, who had 11 assists and four digs.

Danvers' defeat ended a three-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-14. As for Masconomet Regional, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Danvers didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 loss against Dennis-Yarmouth Regional on the 17th. As for Masconomet Regional, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Billerica Memorial on the 20th.
