Softball Recap: Tuesday's Victory Is Marissa/Coulterville's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

Marissa/Coulterville barely beat New Athens the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Meteors blew past the Yellow Jackets 11-3 on Tuesday. The Meteors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matches by seven runs or more this season.

Paityn Hand and Katlyn Rednour made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Hand didn't allow a single earned run over 5.1 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Rednour pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hand has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Hand went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI, while Rednour went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was Rednour's first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reilly Reid, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Trieb, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Marissa/Coulterville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for New Athens, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.

Marissa/Coulterville didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 10-5 victory against Breese Central on the 10th. As for New Athens, they have also already played their next contest, a 4-1 loss against Steeleville on the 13th.
