Softball Game Preview: Bruton Panthers vs. York Falcons

Bruton hasn't had much luck against York recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Panthers will be playing at home against the Falcons at 4:30 p.m. Bruton has given up an average of 19 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Bruton is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against New Kent, falling 20-0.

Western Branch hit York with a five-run second inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Falcons took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bruins.

Sarah Witt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kenlee Washington made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Leslee Maldonado, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Bruton's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for York, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Bruton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like York struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
