Borah and Capital are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Lions will be playing at home against the Golden Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Borah has now lost seven straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since the 3rd.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Borah and Centennial, and Centennial kept the tradition alive. The Lions came up short against the Patriots on Tuesday, falling 15-7.
Genevieve Rainville was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Reese Naylor was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
Meanwhile, Capital faced Boise in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Golden Eagles took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brave. That's two games in a row now that the Golden Eagles have lost by exactly three runs.
Kiya Caltabiano was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, she gave up only zero walks, the fewest she's had since back in March. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Lizzy Turpen made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of McKenna Chavez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Borah's loss dropped their record down to 3-15. As for Capital, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-7.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Borah hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Capital struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.9 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Borah beat Capital 6-2 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Golden Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
