Softball Recap: Minnewaska Area Drops Highest Score of Season Against Hancock

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Minnewaska Area). They put the hurt on the Hancock Owls with a sharp 17-7 victory on Monday. The Lakers not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 15th (when they won 10-0).

Mataya Mix spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Haillie Schulz was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with six RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Emma Poegel was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one run.

Minnewaska Area's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Hancock, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-5.

Looking ahead, Minnewaska Area will venture away from home to face off against Montevideo at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lakers are facing the Thunderhawks at the right time seeing as the Thunderhawks are stuck on an 11-game losing streak. As for Hancock, they will host Brandon/Evansville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
