Baseball Recap: Dublin Coffman Comes Up Short

Dublin Coffman had lost six straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 3-9 to make it seven. They fell 5-0 to the Hilliard Davidson Wildcats. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Shamrocks were not able to get on the board.

Dublin Coffman saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Schimming, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases. Those stolen bases were Schimming's first of the season.

As for Hilliard Davidson, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games.

On Hilliard Davidson's side, not much got past Andrew Sherman, who gave up just six hits to keep Dublin Coffman off the board. Sherman also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Wildcats are undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 3-5 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Hilliard Davidson let Johnny DiBlasio and Will Ragland run wild. DiBlasio went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Ragland went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Ragland a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mitchell Davis, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.

Dublin Coffman and Hilliard Davidson could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Shamrocks (ranked 250th) will meet Upper Arlington (ranked 30th) at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Hilliard Davidson will face off against Olentangy Liberty at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (74 vs. 7).
