Softball Recap: Southern Lee Cavaliers vs. Lee County Yellow Jackets

Southern Lee extended their losing streak to 11 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 2-15 in the process. They lost 16-10 to the Lee County Yellow Jackets. Even if the Cavaliers couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Maliyah Wilson put in work while hitting and pitching. She pitched 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Sydney Bisson and Maggie Lucas stepped up to the plate in a big way. Bisson went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double, while Lucas went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooke Simmons, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

As for Lee County, with the win, they broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-13. They not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 24th (when they won 18-5).

Like Southern Lee, Lee County also got a great game from a two-way player: Hailey Hughes. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up three earned (and seven unearned) runs off 12 hits. Hughes was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lee County got a massive performance out of McKayla Mcdougald, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was McKenzy Mcdougald, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

As of now, neither Southern Lee nor Lee County have any future games scheduled.
