Basketball Game Preview: Maury Commodores vs. Warwick Raiders

The Maury Commodores will challenge the Warwick Raiders at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Maury will bounce into Monday's match after beating Lake Taylor, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. Maury took their game on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 52-23 victory over Lake Taylor. The Commodores have beaten the Titans the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Titans has come to flipping the script.

Camori Veal was the offensive standout of the contest as she posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyla Brown, who put up nine points.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Warwick). They breezed past Phoebus to the tune of 73-29 on Tuesday. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Phantoms are ranked 337th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Warwick's win came from a few key players Maury will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Amariona Collins-Epps, who had 27 points. Another player making a difference was Kelsie Swords, who scored 18 points.

Warwick's win bumped their record up to 17-6. As for Maury, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
