Baseball Game Preview: Pierz Pioneers vs. Pequot Lakes Patriots

The Pierz Pioneers will head out to square off against the Pequot Lakes Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pierz's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Pequot Lakes' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Pierz is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since April 15th on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Albany, sneaking past 3-2. The Pioneers haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Meanwhile, while Pequot Lakes put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Mesabi East. The Patriots blew past the Giants 9-0.

Pequot Lakes has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Pierz, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.

Pierz came out on top in a nail-biter against Pequot Lakes when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pioneers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
