Basketball Game Preview: Alief Hastings Bears vs. Alief Taylor Lions

Alief Hastings hasn't had much luck against Alief Taylor recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Alief Hastings Bears will take on the Alief Taylor Lions at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

On Saturday, Alief Hastings came up short against Fulshear and fell 69-62. While losing is never fun, the Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while the Chargers are ranked 71st).

Meanwhile, Alief Taylor suffered their closest loss since November 16, 2024 on Thursday. They fell just short of Fulshear by a score of 70-67. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (65), the Lions still had to take the loss.

Alief Hastings will have to contain Nataliyah Gray as she made an impact in Alief Taylor's last game. She dropped a double-double on 37 points and ten rebounds. The game was Gray's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Samyra Williams, who posted ten points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Alief Taylor smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 31 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

This is the second loss in a row for Alief Hastings and nudges their season record down to 19-9. As for Alief Taylor, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 24-5.

Alief Hastings was taken down by Alief Taylor 63-34 in their previous matchup on January 3rd. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Gray, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 15 rebounds.
