Basketball Recap: Sunnyslope Falls Despite Big Games from Maggie Luba and Teagan Mcilroy

Sunnyslope's tournament run continued when they took on Lynwood on Friday. The Sunnyslope Vikings fell 61-50 to the Lynwood Knights. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Vikings came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 12th in Arizona, while the Knights are ranked 215th in California).

Sunnyslope's loss came despite strong showings from Teagan McIlroy and Maggie Luba. McIlroy shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Luba dropped a double-double on 12 points and 19 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Luba a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kylie Rarrick, who posted 11 points.

Sunnyslope's loss dropped their record down to 10-3. As for Lynwood, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-8.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Salpointe Catholic the next time they take the court. Sunnyslope will head out to face Salpointe Catholic at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, while Lynwood will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
