Baseball Game Preview: Colerain Cardinals vs. La Salle Lancers

The Colerain Cardinals will venture away from home to challenge the La Salle Lancers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

It was a proper cat-fight when Colerain challenged Elder on Saturday. The Cardinals came up short against the Panthers, falling 10-2.

Colerain saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Craig Smith, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask La Salle). Everything went their way against Roger Bacon on Monday as they made off with an 11-1 victory. The Lancers not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25, 2024 (when they won 16-6).

Alex Smith tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, La Salle let Isaac Goldschmidt and Joe Harmon run wild. Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Harmon went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Goldschmidt has posted since back in April. Justin Lynch also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

La Salle was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The win got La Salle back to even at 9-9. As for Colerain, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.

Colerain came out on top in a nail-biter against La Salle when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 9-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cardinals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
