Basketball Recap: River Ridge Comes Up Short

River Ridge came up into this matchup off a tough 26-point defeat last Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Scales Mound Hornets by a score of 64-62 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wildcats have suffered since December 18, 2024.

When it comes to explaining why River Ridge lost, don't look at Joe Winter. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 29 points and 12 boards. The contest was Winter's 11th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Damon Dittmar, who went 6 of 13 on his way to 16 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, River Ridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Scales Mound only pulled down five offensive boards.

It was another big night for Derrick Distler, who went 9 for 15 en route to 26 points for Scales Mound. Another player making a difference was Aidan Soppe, who went 6 of 9 on his way to 17 points.

River Ridge has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season. As for Scales Mound, the win got them back to even at 12-12.

River Ridge has already played their next match, a 52-47 victory against Galena on the 31st. As for Scales Mound, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 65-46 win against Polo on the 31st.
