Softball Recap: Gunderson's Loss Ends 12-Game Winning Streak at Home

Gunderson dropped their record down to 13-5 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's 12-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They lost 23-16 to the San Jose Bulldogs. The Grizzlies were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 15-14.

Talia Abuhamid stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Chiemi Wong was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

As for San Jose, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-5. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.6 runs.

On San Jose's side, they got a massive performance out of Genesis Davila, who went a perfect 6-for-6 with four stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of April Barron, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one triple.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gunderson will head out to challenge Mt. Pleasant at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 16.88 runs per game on average), something the Grizzlies will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for San Jose, they will venture away from home to square off against Independence at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the 76ers have now posted at least ten runs in their last four games.
