Baseball Recap: Stone Drops Season-High Score on Wayne County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stone). They put the hurt on the Wayne County War Eagles with a sharp 12-4 victory on Friday. This was a revenge game for the Tomcats: when they faced off against the War Eagles last Tuesday, they had to take a 10-8 loss.

Kellan Burge was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Burge was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Baley Brogan, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Nolan Scott was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Stone is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. Wayne County has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season.

Stone will have a chance to go back-to-back against Wayne County: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
