Preview: Notre Dame Green Knights vs. Cheshire Rams
The Notre Dame Green Knights will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cheshire Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Notre Dame had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They claimed a resounding 58-0 win over Wilbur Cross at home. The win was just what Notre Dame needed coming off of a 27-0 defeat in their prior game.
Notre Dame's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Esteban Ortiz, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. The team also got some help courtesy of Joe Capasso, who rushed for 32 yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Cheshire put another one in the bag two weeks ago to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Hamden 41-0 at home. The result was nothing new for Cheshire, who have now won four contests by 27 points or more so far this season.
Jeffery Gonzalez was his usual excellent self, rushing for 46 yards and two touchdowns, while also picking up 77 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Aniston Marsh, who threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns.
Notre Dame's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Cheshire, their victory was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-0.
Notre Dame lost to Cheshire at home by a decisive 27-12 margin in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Notre Dame, Mike Simeone (who rushed for 110 yards on only 11 carries, and also threw for 63 yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time.
