Volleyball Recap: Stephenson Eagles vs. Munising Mustangs
After flying high against Mid Peninsula last Thursday, Stephenson came back down to earth. The Stephenson Eagles fell just short of the Munising Mustangs by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2023.
Stephenson started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 19-25, 24-26, 25-19, 25-21, 15-13.
Even though they lost, Stephenson was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in six consecutive matches.
Munising can attribute much of their success to Olivia Cotey, who had 18 digs.
Stephenson's record now sits at 15-12-3. As for Munising, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-7-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Stephenson will challenge Menominee at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Stephenson will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. As for Munising, they will take on Norway at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Munising is facing Norway at the right time seeing as Norway is stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
