Softball Recap: St. Louis' Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

If St. Louis was riding high fresh off their 21-13 takedown of Gladwin last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Sharks fell just short of the Carson City-Crystal Eagles by a score of 9-7 on Tuesday. The Sharks were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2017.

Paige Luneack put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Halle Hoyt was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Hoyt is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

St. Louis' loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-7. As for Carson City-Crystal, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-14.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Louis will face off against Ithaca at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Sharks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Yellowjackets have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Carson City-Crystal, they will take on St. Charles at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
