Softball Recap: Riverside Comes Up Short

Miami East hit Riverside with a five-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Pirates lost 9-3 to the Vikings. The Pirates have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Riley Dillon was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run.

Dillon wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Miah Carman, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Riverside's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Miami East, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-3.

Coming up, Riverside will be playing in front of their home fans against Covington at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Buccs will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight. As for Miami East, they will head out to take on Bethel at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
