Basketball Recap: Western Starts Season with Defeat on the Road + How To Watch

Western had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They lost to the Chaminade-Madonna Lions on the road by a 69-51 margin on Monday. The Wildcats were down 52-29 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Western had strong showings from Calvin Thompson, who shot 55% from the field on his way to 17 points, and Jovan Rodriguez, who went 6-for-11 to rack up 15 points. Gavyn Nelson was another key player, putting up four points.

Chaminade-Madonna's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brandon Baker led the charge by shooting 70% from beyond the arc en route to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Santana Henderson III, who went 6-for-13 on his way to 17 points along with seven boards and six assists.

Western didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 107-3 victory against Hallandale on the 18th. As for Chaminade-Madonna, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, an 87-39 defeat against Pembroke Pines Charter on the 19th.
