Zane Trace won the last time they faced Westfall and Reise Grant did her part to make sure it happened again. The Pioneers blew past the Mustangs 3-0 on Tuesday with plenty of help from Grant, who had 15 digs and three aces. She is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last five games she's played.
While Zane Trace won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-21, 25-20, 25-22.
Meanwhile, Unioto made easy work of Piketon on Tuesday and carried off a 3-0 victory.
The match finished with set scores of 25-15, 25-12, 25-18.
Unioto's win came from a few key players Zane Trace will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Libby Anderson, who had four digs and three aces. Those three aces gave her a new career-high.
Unioto was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in 11 consecutive matchups.
Zane Trace's win bumped their record up to 14-4. As for Unioto, their victory bumped their record up to 16-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Thursday's contest: Zane Trace has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 7.8 aces per game. However, it's not like Unioto struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.1 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Zane Trace might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Unioto in their previous matchup back in September. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Shermans' Alyssa Stanley, who had 20 digs and two assists. Now that the Pioneers know the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
